Coffee is a drink which is liked by many people around the world. Every culture has their own way to brew coffee and enjoy it. Some people prefer milk coffee, some enjoy cold coffee, and some are fond of black coffee. The roots of the coffee drink or coffee are fixed somewhere in the 15th century. It was thought to be the best drink to keep the people alert especially, preferred by the Sufis of Yemen, who were involved in devotions to Almighty. The drink became popular from the areas of Yemen to Medina and Mecca, gradually to Cairo and Constantinople. The coffee is most popular because of its cultivation in the Arab world. This specific drink grabbed the attention of the world in the 16th century. Arabic coffee is made from coffee beans and cardamom; and is known to be a traditional Arabic drink. The method to prepare it is much more crucial part than the types of beans roasted.

This is the part of the traditional Arabic Cuisine which uses green coffee beans and cardamom. It is also known as “Qehwa”. It is usually served with dates which is also the most liked food among the Arabians. The Qehwa is served in a special coffee pot and the cups which has no handles. The cups are round, and drinks are presented in these, especially in different family events, gatherings, wedding ceremonies or parties.

Let us check out the ingredients which are required to make this special Arabic coffee or Qehwa. These ingredients include:

v  Green coffee beans

v  Cardamom seeds

v  Water

v  Rose water (optional)

The ingredients are simple, so why not check out the recipe as well:

1.      Lightly roast the coffee beans and ground them coarsely.

2.      Add water into a saucepan (about 2.5 cups) and bring it to boil.

3.      Add ground coffee beans.

4.      After 10 minutes, add crushed cardamom into the boiling water and stir it.

5.      Let it boil for another 5 minutes.

6.      Turn off the flame and cover the saucepan, let the grounded coffee settle at the bottom.

7.      Now add rose water into the saucepan.

8.      Strain the mixture into a pot/kettle.

9.      Serve with dates, biscuits, or muffins.
